NYFW FALL 2011 REVIEW

(This post is not about Anna! Thanks for reading!)

New York Fashion Week is probably one of the biggest and most famous events in the fashion world. As the NYFW actually started on September 8^th ,I simply had to mention it.

I found this fantastic video about the past NYFW where were presented the autumn-winter collections. What an amazing review! There was so much going on, but designers certainly managed to entertain us! I'm wondering what are they preparing for next spring-summer!

P.S. I know that the video takes longer but it is really worth a look!

NYFW je jedan od najvećih i vjerojatno najpoznatijih događaja u svijetu mode. Kako nam se približava jednostavno sam ga morala spomenuti. Pronašla sam ovaj fantastičan video o prošlom NYFW gdje su se predstavljale jesensko-zimske kolekcije. Koji odličan osvrt! Bilo je svega, a dizajneri su nas zasigurno uspjeli zabaviti! Pitam se što nam pripremaju na sljedeće proljeće-ljeto!

P.S. Znam da video traje duže ali ga se zbilja isplati pogledati!

Yesterday, 9.11.11, was my daughter Bella's birthday.

We had a family BBQ. Pup and The Big B sat in the living room and watched hours of football while Bella, Lorenzo, Lorenzo's boyfriend BT, and I commandeered The Big Room (which is so lovely I want to sleep with it - pictures someday I hope) and watched some crazy movie on the Netflix stream.

The two youngest young uns were a tad hungover we discovered while Bella and I planned our next outing, shoe shopping for her birthday present and another closet makeover and styling session for Bella.

Another fun family dinner with our family. And yes, it was on 9.11.

10 years ago on 9.11.01 it was my daughter's 19th birthday.

I had taken the day off from my downtown corporate job to stay home and make Bella's favorite meal, my homemade spaghetti with red sauce and meatballs. It takes all day to make the "gravy" and I wanted us to be able to eat at a normal time rather than the 6:30 or 7 when I would normally make it home from my long 2+ hour commute (still cannot believe that I used to drive around 4 hours a day back then).

I was upstairs making beds and getting dressed for the day. Lorenzo was in the living room downstairs waiting for ride to school while watching GMA.

"Mom! I'm leaving! You better turn on the television. Something is happening."

I went downstairs and turned on the television. Of course, nothing's been the same since.

I don't remember too many details on how I felt that day. Numb, dumbfounded, incredulous. Our family had no direct connection to New York except a love of the city we had visited a time or two. Watching everything unfold I did feel like I had a connection. How could I not? This was way beyond that. This was everything we ever held dear to our hearts.

Our freedoms, our unshakable belief that we live in the best country in the world, our core values.

I do remember spending the entire day in suspended disbelief. Maybe not truly drinking in what this would mean from that moment on.

And I was angry. So angry. As the day spun away and we all waited for word, I wanted everything to be fixed. Fixed. I had no idea how broken everything was.

So, yesterday, we did celebrate our Bella's 29th birthday. We laughed and cried at a dumb movie. We endured Pup's constant haggling (annoying, lovely man), we ate burgers, pasta salad, awesome little wonton thingys Lorenzo made.

Pup hung a new flag on the front of the Chez Emerson.

In the back of my mind I thought of how it's been in the past 10 years.

FALL 2011 TREND: CORSET

(LOUIS VUITTON)

A few years back, this trend was appropriate only in the form of underwear. Today, fortunately, corsets are back in fashion but they are no more relegated to mere undergarments.

They can be worn as a visible fashion accessory wile slimming the body, defining the waist and uplifting the bust. Many designers choose corsets to make their collections sexy and seductive. I really like this trend, especially in LV's performance.

Nekoliko godina unazad, ovaj je trend bio primjeren samo u obliku donjeg rublja. Danas, na sreću, korzeti su ponovno u modi, ali ne samo kao donje rublje. Mogu biti nošeni kao vidljivi modni dodatak dok istovremeno čine tijelo mršavijim, definiraju struk i podižu poprsje. Mnogi su dizajneri odabrali upravo korzet kako bi im kolekcije bile sexy i zavodljive. Meni se ovaj trend jako sviđa, naročito u izvedbi Louisa Vuitona.

FALL 2011 TREND: FUR

The other day I was checking out some fall collections so I can share with you guys the fall trends, and I was surprised how many designers used fur. I mean, I know fur is really popular and there are always designers who can't imagine their fall/winter collection without it, but still…it seems it is a huge hit this fall. Prada, Gucci, Valentino, those are only the big names, and the list goes on and on.

Neki dan sam pregledavala kolekcije kako bi s vama mogla podijeliti jesenske trendove i iznenadila sam se koliko je dizajnera koristilo krzno. Znam da je izuzetno popularno i da ne postoje dizajneri koji ne mogu zamisliti svoje jesensko-zimske kolekcije bez barem malog komada krzna, ali ipak…čini se da je ove jeseni veliki hit. Prada, Gucci, Valentino, to su samo velika imena, a lista se nastavlja.

PRADA

First I want to to clarify something: although I'm writting this post, it doesn't mean I support this trend. As our blog has an informative character, Mani & I both have to be objective.

I actually love how fur looks like, luxurious is the right word. But I don't approve using fur for any fashion or other purposes, especially nowdays when the fashion industry has develop and produce excellent fake fur. After all, I'm a vegetarian, and it odds with my beliefs.

Prvo želim raščistiti nešto: iako pišem ovaj post ne znači da ovaj trend i podržavam. Kako je naš blog informativnog karaktera, mani & ja moramo biti objektivni.

Zapravo mi se sviđa kako krzno izgleda, luksuzno je prava riječ. Ali ne podržavam korištenje krzna u modne ili druge svrhe, pogotovo danas kada je modna industrija razvijena i proizvodi odlično umjetno krzno. Ipak, vegetarijanka sam, i to se protivi mojim uvjerenjima.

However, we can't cange the fact that fur, real or fake, takes a huge part of the fashion industry. As a feather, designers colored fur in different colors. Luxurious, colorful, fun, expensive ... so it seems, and if you don't want to wear real fur, don't be affraid to invest in a good piece of fake! Because it really looks good!

Kakogod, ne možemo promijeniti činjenicu da je krzno, pravo ili ne, veliki dio modne industrije. Kao i kožu, dizajneri su ga obojili u različite boje. Luksuzno, šareno, zabavno, skupo…čini se, i ako ne želite nositi pravo, nemojte se investirati u dobar komad lažnog krzna! Zbilja izgleda dobro!
