Actress Li Xiaolu shines on Dior’s Fashion Show in Paris

The global stars shined on the Fall/Winter 2012 show presented by Christian Dior in the garden of the Rodin Museum in Paris as part of Paris Fashion Week on March 3. Chinese actresses Li Xiaolu (李小璐), Zhang Yuqi (张雨绮), Huo Siyan (霍思燕), and Yaochen (姚晨, also crowned as China’s Queen of the micro blogs) were invited to the show too. Li Xiaolu stood out with an off-shoulder gown, almost having her white breasts popped out.

“Body Sushi” served on Gourmet Festival in Dalian

March 3, the Gourmet Festival raised the curtain at the Jiazhaoye Square, in Dalian city, Liaoning Province, with a range of elegant gourmet foods offered by exhibitors for guests to taste for free. In order to attract more people, Japanese style of “Body Sushi (or Female Body Presentation) was served on the event too. Visitors could eat sushi directly from a female model who donned swimwear.

Teen asks for death penalty after hacking woman and child to death

March 1, 2012, a 20-year-old male, surnamed Ma, stood trial at the No.2 Intermediate Court of Beijing, on charges of bloodily hacking a woman and her 2-year-old son to death with an axe.The victims family were overwhelmed with emotions holding the photos of the deceased in court, while Ma showed no regret at all and often pulled his faces urging the judge to impose a death penalty to him.Ma was born in 1991, in Heilongjiang province. He was hired as a porter in a trading company in Chaoyang District, Beijing, before he murdered the baby and the woman, surnamed Yi, who was the daughter-in-law of the company’s owner, working as an accountant in the company too.

Ma said he had no feud with Ms. Yi. May 22, last year, it was Sunday. When Ma intended to sleep in on the day, the owner however woke him up early at 6am to off load cargo. He was pissed, and secretly put over 20 sleeping pills to the company’s meal in order to drug his owner and workmates. As a result, all of them were then sent to the hospital, due to the overdose of the sedative drug.In the evening of the same day, when Ma was about to go to bed, Ms. Yi asked him to replace the light bulb, and then look after her 2-year-old kid. Ma refused to look after her kid, but Ms. Yi insisted, saying that he was the employee of their family. Consequently, the two fell into an argument and fight. The teenage went totally insane at the end, and brutally hacked Ms. Yi and her 2 year old kid into a pool of blood.After bloody murder, Ma dragged Ms. Yi’s body outside to place under a truck, and threw the dead baby to a stock house. He then went back to the rooms of Ms. Yi and the owner, and took away 3,000 yuan cash and other personal belongings to flee the scene by driving away the owner’s Buick car.

Ma said it was his first time to drive a car, and finally he crashed into a railing. He then left the car and took a taxi to Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province, with 2,000 yuan, because he wanted to go back home to see his family and friends. Ma added, he ever thought of killing himself during the running, but the next day he was arrested by the police.The defense counsel sated in court that Ma’s parents divorced in his childhood, and when he was four years old, his father was executed for the crime of murder. Since then, Ma had been often physically abused by his step mother.Ma gave up self defense in court however, and did not want to say more about his childhood. He only said that he was unable to sleep and had intentions to kill himself when he was young.

Ma showed no remorse to the deceased victims and axe attack. He said in his final statement that he hoped the judge to impose death penalty to him and execute him immediately. But the judge did not pronounce a sentence in court straightaway that day.

7-month pregnant woman loses unborn baby after being stabbed

February 28, a 7-month pregnant woman was stabbed in her head and throat, causing the death of her unborn baby by a knife wielding robber, when she was withdrawing money from an ATM near a residential community in Changxing Island, Dalian City.The seriously injured victim, surnamed Zhou, 25 years old, was now still unconscious due to too much blood loss, and her grief-stricken husband stayed beside her every day, praying for her to wake up as soon as possible.It was said, the couple were homed in Wafangdian, Dalian City, but since Zhou’s husband was working in Changxing Island instead, Zhou often came to Changxing Island to see him on the weekends.

On the day when Zhou learned that her husband borrowed 1,000 yuan from his workmate, she then went to the ATMs to withdraw money, intending to pay back his workmate. But unexpectedly, the tragedy happened to her.The robber stabbed in Zhou’s head and throat, and took away her money and handbag. When Zhou’s husband arrived at the scene, she was seen in a pool of blood. Zhou then was rushed to the local hospital, but soon transferred to the municipal hospital. According to Zhou’s chief doctor, the stab in her throat was fatal as the trachea was cut.After five hours emergency operation, Zhou’s wounds were stitched, but because of too much blood loss Zhou was still unconscious, and the fetus died in her womb.The local police have started investigating the case. Let’s hope the murderer is brought to trial soon.

Shaolin monks teach Shaolin Kong Fu class at Stanford University

Shaolin monks from the Shaolin Temple USA started teaching a weekly mind-body fitness class at Stanford University, from the winter quarter of 2011.“The big plus is that I’m learning real kung fu from real Shaolin monks, whom I would have no access to if I were still in China – all under the California sun,” said one Stanford staff member who is enrolled in the class.The Shaolin Kong Fu class is sponsored by the university’s Health Improvement Program. 30-year-old Master Shi Ranyan, who began his training at the legendary Songshan Shaolin Temple in central China when he was 9 years old, teaches the class, accompanied by six other monks, ranging in age from 18 to 27. It is a weekly hour-long class, which takes place in a courtyard behind the Medical School Office Building on Welch Road.

The class aims to help participants achieve a harmony of body and mind, through practicing Shaolin Kong Fu exercises.“I was pleased at the initial response and am happy that the interest continues to be pretty high,” said Jerrie Thurman, group fitness program manager with the Health Improvement Program, who decided to offer this class at Stanford University after reviewing Shaolin Temple USA.Master Yanran said Shaolin Kung Fu is different than other martial arts systems because it incorporates the teachings of Buddhism.“The spirit of Shaolin Kung Fu includes compassion, harmony, diligence and inclusiveness,” he said, speaking through translator Diana Hong. “It is not a brutal fighting system. In addition to self-defense skills, Shaolin Kung Fu exercises also improve the health and overall spirit.”

Oops! 1,500 taxi drivers in Guangzhou lined up in front of the designated service stations to have their taximeters repaired on February 29, the leap year day, after they found a bug in chips caused a malfunction to the meters.Since the “leap year” factor was not considered in the design, the taximeters did not Feb 29, which comes around only every four years. So, when the clock ticked past midnight on February 29 morning, the meters malfunctioned.The cab drivers thus could not work for the whole early morning, and demanded the compensation from the meter manufacturer, Hua Gang, too.Later in the afternoon of the day, the Hua Gang company promised to pay 300 thousand yuan to taxi drivers affected as a compensation.
