What Are You Doing Today?

I'm going to Ikea with my Bella to scope out utility room thingys. Wish me luck because WAH? We're going to Ikea on a SUNDAY? We must have a screw loose.

But we're going early, going to fuel up on their $1 breakfast (or whatever it costs), drink lots of their awesome Swedish coffee, and hit the ground running, elbows flying.

Not really. There will be no elbows. Or pepper spray for that matter. Did y'all hear about the pepper spray all over the country? I'm embarrassed to be part of the human race at times. I like a bargain, but I'm not going to risk getting shot over an Xbox. I'll buy my damn flatscreens at Costco thank you very much.

So, I'm drinking my coffee (yes!) and trying to pick out a white for my utility room. Can you believe this damn Benjamin Moore? How many whites are there?

I'm excited to go to Ikea, I can't lie. I love that place with a passion that is a little unnatural. Or maybe it is natural. To me anyway.

It's early - I'm rambling - I'm going to put on some jeans and wait for Bella.

What's on My Phone?

Getting a few things for the manse. Trying like HELL to restrain myself. I'm impulsive at times and conversely very slow on styling. Not a good combo!

I bought the fur skin and had NO IDEA what I was going to do with it, then saw the wicker bowl chair and BAM, love it! Crappy early morning Blackberry shot just for reference.

Personal Renovation

Look at this shot. I imagine the woman that inhabits this space to be serene, dress in lots of beige, have a well-modulated voice, and never get caught with last nights mascara under her eyes. I think I love this woman.

Style really is everywhere and definitely starts within us, you, me, as a person. Begins with everything you do.

I am starting a six-week style reno. Not too certain why I chose six weeks. Maybe because it seems doable? Let's see how this progresses.

Did everyone have a thankful Thanksgiving? Ours was chaotic and lovely. My new family is used to being huge and chaotic and helped me get that dinner on the table and then clean up afterward.

I had my camera out and poised for shots, but I swear my body never left that damn kitchen. That's sad! The day passed in a blur of laughing, talking, wine, stuffing being stuffed into mouths, and lots of sugar, tons of leftovers. I was a soppy mess yesterday getting my house back in order and not doing much else.

Today I'm heading out to Ikea (Ha! Ikea!) with my SIL. She's never been.

Ikea Experiment

I have a mad, crazy love for Ikea (post showing all things Ikea in my house will be coming). I had a craving for something spiff for my dining room space and a huger craving to get my ass to the Ikea so I decided to check out the breakfast they offer before the store opens.

No wireless connection for my netbook – surprising??

It is wild, crazy here. People were lined up outside the doors at 9:15. "What are they waiting for?" I am wondering. "Dry scrambled eggs? Loads of carbs?" I opt for coffee and take my cup to the cashier.

"Coffee only?" she asked.
"Yep," I reply.
"That’s free ma’am."
"Excuse me?"
"The coffee is free."

Jaw dropping on floor. I recover said jaw, walk away with my free coffee, and try to act non-clueless-like. I choose a table by the large, clean windows.

I’ve been sitting here, maybe 10 minutes. The place is filling up.

• Old men
• Old couples
• Young families – lots and lots of families with lots and lots of kids
• Moms with young daughters
• Moms with babies
• One dad with a baby
• Young couples with no kids
• A couple of women with their girlfriends.

I just might be the only women here without a companion. Just me and my trusty netbook. What a nerd.

Wait! Loudspeaker-woman just announced that the store is open and please stop in for Ikea’s 99¢ breakfast. 99¢? That explains all the old people yes? My dad is 80 years-old and he would LOVE him some 99¢ breakfast. Especially if the coffee is black, hot, and free.

The breakfast smells awesome, but I’m meeting Pupcake at the Mall of Excess, I mean the Mall of America, for lunch.

Sitting here, frankly, just might be better people-watching than at the state fair.

The young couples look hip and perfectly put together. How do they do this? I look down at my cropped cargo pants, black top, and gray hoodie. And I live in the city. WTH?

Lots of graphic Ts with banded hats (no baseball hats), lots of really good haircuts, Lacoste polo’s, lots of very expensive (I’m guessing here) denim.

A few of those bad suburban-mom haircuts (Kate-minus-asshole-type). Young suburbans just love that reverse mullet. Smooth in the front and crazy in the back. Shudder! I know I have hair issues, but please!

Oh, that’s just mean – I am going to hell.

Okay – I’m off to shop.

I love this place.

I bought:

1. Pendant lamp for new gazebo.
2. Rug for basement area by tanning bed.
3. Tall, skinny, vase.
4. Tall, curly things to put in vase.
5. Rock for candle display on coffee table.
6. 10 - 59¢ glasses. 59¢!! These will be great for the party.
7. Plant and vase for me.
8. Plant and vase for youngest.
9. Wooden soap dish.
10. Water spray bottle for naughty cat, Calvin.
11. Jar with lid for Epsom salts in bathroom.
12. Mittful of weird kitchen utensils. I can’t ever resist the stuff in bins along the steps going down.
13. Egg chopper.

Spent $86.61. Reused an Ikea bag so I’m feeling very green.

We put together two of the Ikea Lack TV solutions to make room for Pup's stereo components.

Lovely!

We are still doing the back and forth on his bachelor surround-sound. Yuck I say! :)

I LOVE loud, pounding music, but really hate the wires! We'll come up with something.
