At least 6 Chinese killed in ammunition depot explosions in Congo
At least six Chinese died in the ammunition depot explosions in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, in the morning of March 4 (local time), killing more than 200 people and injuring 1500 others in total.When the blasts went off, over 140 Chinese workers of the Beijing Construction Engineering Group in Congo were at the construction site near the ammunition depot. The blasts also left dozens of Chinese workers injured, some in serious condition. China’s embassy in Congo responded immediately to launch a rapid rescuing work and successfully transferred over 50 to 60 other workers at the scene to the security places.According to the central TV station of Congo, several explosions occurred too amid the rescuing work, forcing rescuers and firefighters to stop work several times.The country’s Presidential Office’s spokesman advised the locals not to panic, as the blast was just an isolated incident.
