Civil servant accused of sexually abusing and beating his pregnant wife
February 14, 2012, the People’s Court in Zhongshan City heard the case against a clerk of the intermediate court of Zhaongshan, surnamed Wang, who violently beat and raped his wife which finally led to her abortion. Wang’s wife, surnamed Zuo, filed for a divorce from him, and demanded a compensation of 200 thousand rmb and an open apology to her parents from Wang.Ms. Zuo firstly exposed on Tianya, one of most popular communities in China, on January 17, that her sick husband frequently beat up her and her father and used violence to rape her in the public places too when she was pregnant, which at the end forced her to undergo the abortion operation. Ms. Zou also disclosed on her post that her husband was the civil servant working at the intermediate court in Zhongshan City, which aroused even stronger outrage among the netizens.Wang was suspended from his post for investigations, but he denied what Ms. Zuo said. Wang accepted divorce in the court, but refused to pay 200 thousand yuan as a compensation. Wang said he would only give 5000 yuan at most, according to Ms. Zuo.The two parties gave different statements to the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault appealed by Ms. Zuo in the court. Both parties were overwhelmed with emotions in argument that ever forced the court to adjourn the proceedings for 5 minutes.Since the court failed to reconcile the two sides, the case was not closed and will be re-heard publicly in the following days soon, according to the court.
