South Korean vessel arrested for investigation on water contamination

According to a South Korea based media, Chinese government has arrested a Korean vessel which was said to be responsible to the contamination of the water supply of Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, for investigation.Earlier reports have suggested that the vessel from South Korea docked in the port of Zhenjianga did not close its valve properly, which caused lower reaches of the Yangtze River to be polluted by phenol on Feb. 3. The citizens of Zhenjiang found that their drinking water gave off an unpleasant odor, which also led to panic-buy of bottled water in the markets.The South Korea based media has made responses recently to the matter, claiming that the Korean vessel did not have any chemical leaked to the Yangtze River. South Korean Embassy in Shanghai also issued an announcement on Feb. 10, hoping that China will be objective and impartial in dealing with the incident.
