PLA Navy building in Beijing catches fire

It was only learned in the beginning a historical remain caught fire in Beijing on the Lantern Festival night, and the fireworks display was denied to be the cause of fire.

Later on Sina Weibo (though Beijing has sent warning to tighten its control over the portal), it was discovered it was actually a four-story building formerly used by North Marine Navy of the late Qing Dynasty and now by the People Liberation Army Navy.

The news has been blocked, and the government’s mouthpieces only mentioned, “a building near Princess Tomb in Haidian District, Beijing caught fire, and 15 fire trucks were mobilized to put out the fire.”

The reporters were stopped getting close to the area with force, and their photographing equipments were seized too by the officials, stating that it was the forbidden area and they needed to keep the mater secret.

Unfortunately, paper can’t wrap fire. When the news was exposed online, netizens started joking about the naval force’s inability to prevent fire, and raising questions on their power to resist the foreign enemy.
