Supermarkets remove Red Bull off shelves for safety reasons
Two days ago, Carrefour’s headquarters issued a notice to remove Red Bull products off shelves in their supermarkets in Chinese cities to protect consumer rights, because the beverage was found with unregistered ingredients. Reportedly, many other supermarkets in major cities now have taken the beverage off shelves temporarily too.According to the earlier coverage, Harbin’s Food and Drug Administration, when carrying out routine inspection, found out that the beverage’s ingredients and additives listed on the product labels did not match the relevant record approved by the State Food and Drug Administration, and the beverage contained additives, like citrate sodium, sodium benzoate, caffeine, and carmine pigment, that the authority bans to use in vitamin functional beverages too.Responding to the matter, Red Bull later published a statement on its official website, saying that Harbin Food and Drug Administration has verified that the ingredients Red Bull products used were all approved by the State Food and Drug Administration to use, and promising that their vitamin functional beverage does not contain any banned additives.Harbin Food and Drug Administration has started investigation into the safety of the beverage, but results haven’t been published yet.For safety reasons, supermarkets in the major cities thus have removed the products off their shelves.
