Senior official’s daughter-in-law shows off wealth on Weibo too

Recently, daughter-in-law of the director of Shanmen County’s Food and Drug Administration, surnamed Zhang, caused an Internet wave by showing off her luxury collections on Sina Weibo too. This is another scandal related to the vulgar display of wealth by the government officials second-generation, which stepped on the nerve of netizens.Zhang also proudly said on her Weibo account that her husband is a civil servant, but he has never gone to the office. Responding to such a freeloader as a senior official’s son and civil servant, netizens said in a self-sarcasm manner, “Taxpayers are vulnerable (纳税人伤不起, an Internet meme).”From the screenshots captured from Zhang’s microblog, though most of the entries were later deleted, Zhang has a variety of luxury products, including a VERSAC watch worth of 150 thousand yuan, and a handbag worth of 15 thousand yuan.On Feb. 9, an official of Shanmen County’s propaganda department of Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province clarified to the public that Zhang is indeed the daughter in law of the director of Shanmen County’s Food and Drug Administration, but parts of her tweets were incorrect.Zhang is a temporary worker of a government department, and her husband is an average employee of a public institute not a civil servant. The official denied the freeloading, by arguing that Zhang’s husband were often seen in the construction sites instead of his office.The VERSAC watch does not belong to Zhang, but her friend. She only helped her friend to sell the watch online.Zhang was born in a wealthy family, so most of her living expenses were from her doting parents. Zhang was not able to buy these luxury products with the incomes from Zhang’s husband and her father in law, said the official.
